• What is Cyberpunk?

Cyberpunk is a subgenre of science fiction set in a dystopian future. It is characterized by its focus on a combination of "lowlife and high-tech". It features a range of futuristic technological and scientific achievements, including artificial intelligence and cyberware, which are juxtaposed with societal collapse, dystopia or decay.

Some key elements of Cyberpunk include:

• Very often dystopian settings, though this is not mandatory.
• Rebellion and social decay or collapse.
• Very advanced technology with a pervasive penetration into society.
• Mega corporations that have a strong influence on daily life and on governments, where the latter can be oppressive too.
• Often in dark settings with neon-lit cities and streets, evoking a sense of dread.
• Cyberpunk stories take place in the near future on Earth, though other planets are not excluded.

• Why only movies and no games, books and music?

Because this is the only Cyberpunk media I consume and am very familiar with. I'm not a great books reader and am definitely not a gamer either. Before the catastrophic server crash in September of 2026 that wiped out all content and its backups, this site also had books, games and music databases. After the crash, I decided to slim it down and focus on movies only. If you look for books or games (or movies), you can visit my friend's database at Cyberpunk Hub. He does a great job of keeping all DBs up-to-date!

• Can I download stuff from here?

Nope. This is just an information database. No content is stored in it or on the server and no external linking is done either!

• I find some records in the database to be questionable

The Cyberpunk genre is often highly debated on what exactly defines Cyberpunk. There's a lot of content that may appear Cyberpunk-isch, but does not really fit the genre. There is also a lot of genre overlap with the other subgenres that came out of Cyberpunk such as Biopunk, Solarpunk, Dieselpunk and Steampunk, to name a few. As I'm not a Cyberpunk die-hard or purist, you will find overlapping content in the database! The database not only catalogs Cyberpunk content but also Proto-Cyberpunk and Post-Cyberpunk ones.

• Enjoy your stay!
