The game's story is set in a world where an evil computer named AM has destroyed all of humanity except for five people, whom he has been keeping alive and torturing for the past 109 years.

The year is 2099. The world is a much different place. After a series of devastating nuclear attacks on America's heartland by an unseen (and still unidentified) enemy the government was in disarray. The corporations were the only thing left to protect the populace and rebuild society. So, they did. Like technocratic gods they rebuilt America™ in their image, and then used new economies of scale and political financial systems to reshape the globe.

The game is set in 2004. During the 1990s, Dr. Marcus Rand was experimenting in astral projection through time and space, and encountered a woman in the future who was able to sense his astral form. The woman (later identified as simply "Raven") told him that in her time, all of humanity is jacked into a virtual reality network called Perfect, and cannot jack out, leaving them to wither and die as their physical needs are left unattended. Determined to answer Raven's plea for help, Rand focuses his research on projecting a person's mind to Perfect. When two test subjects died using his experimental technology, Rand's project was terminated and the use of the technology forbidden. Undeterred, Rand continued research using himself as the test subject. However, during his experimentation he received a near-fatal "psi feedback"; when found in his lab three days later, conscious but unable to move or communicate, he was committed to a rehabilitation institution.

The Infinity universe was launched by Corvus Belli as a hugely popular tabletop-skirmish game in which sci-fi-themed miniatures simulated futuristic battles across the alien battlefronts of Paradiso and the internecine conflicts of the Human Sphere. Before there was a skirmish game, though, there was an role-playing game. Infinity started life as a homemade RPG setting for the early role-playing adventures of Corvus Belli founders Alberto, Carlos, Fernando, and Gutier. More recently, the team has been playtesting the Infinity RPG with hundreds of people, working hard to recapture the excitement of those first sessions with a fully fleshed-out system designed to ensure that the feel of the Infinity universe will be captured in your own campaign!
